How Nollywood Veteran, Ajoke Silva Was Adopted Yet Made A Name For Herself (Details)

Nollywood veteran, Ajoke Silva was born on September 29, 1961, into a Saro/Amaro family of four children in Lagos, Nigeria. She was adopted at a very young age by her foster parents, the late Chief E.A Silva, a reputable Lawyer, and his wife, Dr. Abimbola Silva, who were a Lagos-based family. She was adopted from a foster home operated by the Red Cross in Lagos.

The idea to adopt Joke Silva-Jacobs was initially brought by Ajoke’s foster mother, Dr. Abimbola Silva who was a Medical Doctor, and a TTC mum for a long time. She adopted Ajoke following her inability to conceive. Though Chief Silva married another wife and they have children together.

Ajoke Silva found out that she was adopted at about 11 years old through a family member of her foster father. According to reports, her foster father’s female sibling, had informed her that Dr. Abimbola is not her biological mother.

She was shattered by this information and questioned Dr. Abimbola. Her mother explained to her how she was adopted and also showed her, her adoption papers which she kept in a box.

During an interview Ajoke revealed that, ‘it’s something that one is just getting to understand, and it’s a journey’.

Chief Silva and Dr. Abimbola were instrumental in Ajoke’s successful career. She was treated like their biological children.

She attended Holy Child College in Lagos for her secondary education and later proceeded to the University of Lagos, where she graduated with a degree in English language.

In primary school, she was part of a stage production called The Merry Peasant or The Stranger, where she played a role in the musical.

Joke Silva also attended the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where she honed her acting skills.

Dr. Abimbola passed away at the age of 83 years and bequeathed all her assets to Ajoke Silva.

Joke Silva has had a long and successful career in the entertainment industry, with several notable works to her name. Here are some of her most notable works:

White Waters (2007): Joke Silva won the Best Supporting Actress award in 2008 for her portrayal of a grandmother in this movie.
