South African Man Pleads With Nigerians, Apologizes For Bolt Prank
A South African man, identifying himself as Grand Dilan, has made a heartfelt plea on social media, urging Nigerians to put an end to the ongoing Bolt ride prank that has caused significant disruptions to businesses in both countries. In a viral video posted on Tuesday, Dilan is seen kneeling, expressing that the situation has escalated beyond control.
The prank, which began as a playful rivalry between some South Africans and Nigerians, has since taken a toll on many businesses. It started when a group of South Africans ordered Bolt rides in Lagos, Nigeria, from their country, only to cancel the rides once the drivers arrived at the pick-up locations. In retaliation, some Nigerians began doing the same, ordering rides in Johannesburg and Cape Town from Lagos and canceling them upon the drivers’ arrival.
Dilan, clearly distressed, explained that what began as a prank has had serious repercussions, with many businesses in South Africa suffering as a result. “Nigerians, I’m on my knees. I’m begging you people to stop this. You guys have skyrocketed to another level,” he said in the video. “You guys have damaged a lot of businesses back in South Africa. So many businesses have closed apps. This is getting out of hand. You are destroying people’s businesses. You have destroyed millions.”
His plea highlights the unintended consequences of the prank, which has spiraled into a situation where innocent business owners and service providers are bearing the brunt of the joke. As the situation continues to unfold, Dilan’s message serves as a call for reflection and a return to mutual respect between the two nations.
