APC Predicts Failure Of Proposed Obi-Kwankwaso Alliance For 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed concerns over a potential alliance between Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) for the 2027 presidential election. In an interview, Bala Ibrahim, the APC’s National Publicity Director, stated that the ruling party is not worried about the proposed alliance, predicting it would fail just as it did in the lead-up to the 2023 election.

Ibrahim pointed out that a lack of trust between Obi and Kwankwaso would once again prevent any successful coalition. He emphasized that both leaders have strong presidential ambitions and are unlikely to yield to one another. Referring to their previous failed attempts at an alliance, he remarked, “These are strange bedfellows who can’t sleep in the same room,” suggesting that neither would be willing to step down for the other due to a superiority complex.

The APC spokesperson further argued that the alliance is mere rhetoric in response to the APC’s ongoing progress and changes in the political landscape. He confidently predicted the APC’s victory in 2027, calling the opposition’s efforts “the ranting of a party destined for doom.”

In contrast, the Labour Party welcomed Kwankwaso’s offer to potentially run as Obi’s vice-presidential candidate, with the party’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk, stating that the merger could succeed if Kwankwaso is willing to work alongside Obi. The proposed alliance has also drawn support from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). PDP’s National Deputy Publicity Secretary, Abdullahi Ibrahim, described the development as a positive step towards uniting the opposition. He said the PDP would back any collaboration that aims to relieve Nigerians from the hardships caused by the APC-led government.

Ibrahim reiterated that opposition parties must close ranks and collaborate for the sake of the country. He expressed confidence in the PDP’s standing as the major opposition party, with 13 governors and former influence at the national level, positioning it to lead efforts to “salvage the people from despair and despondency.

The debate over a possible Obi-Kwankwaso alliance reveals the intensifying political maneuvers ahead of the 2027 election, with the opposition working to present a united front while the APC remains confident in its dominance.
