Jos DisCo Dedicates 76 Feeders To Enhance Power Supply For Band A Customers
The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) has announced a significant step towards improving power distribution in Jos and its environs by dedicating 76 feeders to the Band A electricity supply scheme. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the efficiency and reliability of energy delivery to customers in the region. According to Dr. Elijah Adakole, JEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, the move is part of the company’s commitment to delivering uninterrupted power supply and ensuring customer satisfaction.
As part of the strategy, a seven-member team has been assigned to each feeder, tasked with maintaining consistent power supply in line with the Band A schedule. This scheme, which classifies electricity consumers based on their consumption patterns, is designed to ensure that customers in the highest band receive the most reliable electricity supply. Dr. Adakole emphasized that these customers, in return, are expected to make full and timely payments for the energy they consume.
In a statement released on Thursday, Dr. Adakole highlighted that the introduction of the Feeders Management System and Bilateral Arrangements would commence on November 1. These systems are designed to further streamline power distribution and ensure that customers enjoy uninterrupted electricity supply according to their respective bands. The Feeders Management System allows JEDC to monitor energy distribution in real-time, quickly addressing any issues that may arise to prevent outages.
The new system is part of a broader effort by JEDC to improve customer experience and satisfaction. Under this arrangement, the company is implementing a zero-tolerance policy for partial payments. Customers will now be required to settle their monthly bills in full to continue receiving power. This shift is aimed at reducing payment defaults and ensuring that JEDC can maintain the financial viability needed to support infrastructure improvements and provide steady electricity.
JEDC has taken proactive steps to ensure that its staff members are well-equipped to manage this new system effectively. The feeder management teams have been trained to monitor customer payment records and ensure that only those who meet their financial obligations continue to benefit from uninterrupted electricity supply. By creating a direct link between payment compliance and power availability, the company hopes to incentivize prompt bill settlement among its customers.
“The management of JEDC is committed to improving the quality of service to its customers,” said Dr. Adakole. “We believe that the introduction of the Feeders Management System and the Bilateral Arrangements will go a long way in ensuring that our customers receive the energy they need without disruptions. However, this is a two-way street. Customers must also do their part by paying their bills in full and on time.”
He also urged customers to embrace the new scheme as it is designed to serve them better and ensure that they have access to the energy they need for their daily activities. “This new initiative will enable us to deliver a steady and reliable electricity supply to our Band A customers. It is important that customers understand the value of this service and take their obligations seriously. We are moving towards a more accountable and efficient system, and with the cooperation of our customers, we can achieve our goal of providing a better power distribution experience for everyone.”
The introduction of these new systems is expected to have a significant impact on power supply in Jos and surrounding areas. By targeting payment defaulters and ensuring that only compliant customers benefit from uninterrupted electricity, JEDC is taking a firm stand on improving the financial sustainability of its operations. The company’s efforts are part of a broader trend across Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies (DisCos), which are working to enhance service delivery while addressing the challenges posed by energy theft and
