Kebbi Govt Approves N75,000 As New Minimum Wage
The Government of Kebbi State has approved a new minimum wage of N75,000 for civil servants.
This was announced during the presentation of the Minimum Wage Committee’s report which the governor set up.
It was a long-awaited moment for Kebbi State workers who had anticipated a salary increase following the agreement between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Federal Government on an N72,000 minimum wage.
The new minimum wage for Kebbi workers is a slight raise from the Federal Government.
In the presence of national leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress, led by Joe Ajaero, the Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Bala, made it known that the agreement was reached after extensive meetings between the state executives and the labor union.
The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, while commending Governor Idris, criticised some governors who, despite receiving more oil revenue, have approved only minimal wage increases. He stressed that the union will continue its efforts until more states approve suitable wages for their workers.
The NLC leaders chanted solidarity songs in appreciation of the governor’s decision on behalf of the state’s workers.
