Oyo Government Strengthens Collaboration With Security Agencies
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to strengthening security in the state through active collaboration and support for security agencies. The governor made this commitment on Thursday while hosting the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Audi, at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
During the courtesy visit, Governor Makinde praised the NSCDC for its pivotal role in bolstering the state’s security framework. To further empower the Corps, the governor donated two new patrol vehicles to the Oyo State Command, underscoring his administration’s readiness to provide resources necessary for effective security operations.
NSCDC as a Pillar of Support
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Makinde commended the NSCDC for its consistent support and contributions to the state’s security architecture. He acknowledged the Corps’ role in maintaining Oyo State’s reputation as one of the safest in Nigeria, despite nationwide security challenges.
“The Civil Defence Corps in Oyo State is part of Operation Burst, and they are doing very well. That is why Oyo State remains one of the safest states in Nigeria. We appreciate their efforts, and they have never been found wanting when critical issues arise,” Makinde said.
The governor also recognized the NSCDC’s significant contribution to protecting Nigeria’s critical oil assets. “Oil is the lifeline of our economy, and the role the Corps plays in securing these assets is invaluable. Despite the emergence of new threats like the Lakurawa terror group in the North-West and sabotage of oil pipelines in the South, the NSCDC has continued to rise to the occasion,” he added.
Commitment to Collaboration and Support
Makinde assured the Commandant-General and his team that the Oyo State Government remains committed to supporting security personnel across the state. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing the nation’s security challenges.
“We will continue to support our officers and ensure that their assignments in Oyo State are not perceived as hardship postings. We remain committed to ensuring they have the necessary resources to discharge their duties effectively,” the governor stated.
To commemorate Audi’s visit, the governor formally handed over two patrol vehicles to the Oyo State Command, further demonstrating his administration’s proactive approach to security.
Commandant-General Commends Makinde’s Leadership
In his response, NSCDC Commandant-General Ahmed Audi expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for the state’s unwavering support of the Corps. He praised the governor for fostering a strong relationship between the state government and the NSCDC, which has enabled the Corps to fulfill its mandate effectively.
Audi also lauded Makinde’s developmental achievements and reforms, pledging that the NSCDC would continue to maintain peace and security in Oyo State.
“We are grateful for the governor’s support, especially the donation of additional patrol vehicles. I urge our officers to remain steadfast and committed to their responsibilities in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property,” Audi said.
A Unified Vision for Security
Governor Makinde’s efforts reflect a broader strategy to enhance Oyo State’s security through collaboration, resource allocation, and recognition of the contributions of security agencies. As Nigeria grapples with evolving security threats, initiatives like these underscore the importance of synergy between government and security institutions in safeguarding lives and assets.
