Erling Haaland Scores Hat-Trick As Manchester City Beat Fulham 5-1
Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick as Manchester City beat Fulham 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
The Cottagers stifled their illustrious hosts with a stubborn first 30 minutes where neither side managed so much as a shot, and a scrappy battle for midfield frustrated fans.
But City needed just one effort to take the lead, and Haaland’s square ball found Julian Alvarez at the back post, the Argentine could hardly miss from six yards and an empty net.
So often, City takes the lead and steamrolls their opponents, but Fulham bounced right back as Ederson spilled Raul Jimenez’s volleyed effort, gifting Tim Ream with an open goal just one yard out.
The visitors were level, but not for long, as Nathan Ake squeezed a rifled effort past Bernd Leno on the stroke of halftime for 2-1, landing a sucker punch on Marco Silva’s men who deserved to be level.
Fulham started strongly in the second half but City are a force to be reckoned with and extended their lead inside the hour as Erling Haaland grabbed his goal, passing into the net after a brilliant ball from Alvarez.
And Haaland put the game to bed 10 minutes later with a thunderous penalty, awarded after Alvarez was dragged down in the box by Issa Diop.
The Norwegian machine then completed his hat-trick deep in stoppage time with a clinical, rifled effort from the penalty spot.
