10 Sustain Injuries In Lagos Boxing Day Crash
A total of 10 persons sustained injuries in an accident that happened along the Otedola Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Boxing Day
An incident report signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, on Thursday, revealed that the accident occurred when a long bus crashed into a stationary containerized truck.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the long bus driver lost control after the vehicle developed a brake system failure leading to the crash.
He noted that though no lives were lost in the incident, 10 passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries.
The PS said, “Upon arrival at 0650hrs, LASEMA’s Tiger Response Team from Tiger Base Alausa, discovered that a branded long bus (name withheld), registration number MUS-176XC, had crashed into a stationary 40ft container truck from behind.
“Investigations conducted by the agency’s Tiger Response Team revealed that the accident caused a long bus driver to lose control of the vehicle in motion and crash into the stationary truck due to brake failure.
“Fortunately, no lives were lost due to the incident. Ten victims comprising three adult males and seven adult females sustained various degrees of injuries.”
He stressed further that the LASEMA Response Team administered first aid to the victims before transporting them to a nearby hospital.
The PS added that other occupants of the vehicle who escaped unhurt were moved to another vehicle for the continuation of their journey.
“All the accident victims were promptly attended to by the agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Team and were taken to the Trauma Centre with the aid of the Agency’s ambulance and other ambulances present at the scene.
“Passengers that escaped the incident unscathed have been transferred to another bus for onward transportation to their destination,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
