17 Sustain Injuries In Ogun Multiple Crash

17 people sustained injuries while 15 others escaped unhurt in a multiple crash that happened on Saturday at about 8.55 am around Iju bridge, Ota-Idiroko road.

The accident involved three vehicles and a tricycle.

The vehicles involved are a Mazda bus with the number plate AAA729YC, a Toyota Hiace bus with the number plate LND85YA, a Sino truck with no registration number, and another Bajaj tricycle with the number plate TTN58ND.

The Spokesperson of Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday.

Okpe blamed the accident on excessive speed on the part of the driver of the Sino truck while negotiating the bend around the Iju bridge after which he lost control and rammed into the vehicle triggering multiple crashes.

Those injured were said to have been taken to General Hospital, Ota for medical treatment.

The statement partly read, “FRSC Ota carried out rescue operation at Iju bridge at about 0855hrs  on Ota- Idiroko route.

The crash occurred today 11 May 2024 involving 32 people which comprised 12 male adults and 20 female adults.

17 people sustained injuries ( 06 male adult and 11 female adult and the rest 15 people were unhurt.  fortunately, no life was lost from the multiple crashes.

“A total of 04 vehicles were involved with registration numbers  AAA729YC Mazda, LND85YA Toyota Hiace, TTN58ND BAJAJ  and the fourth vehicle has no number plate on it a SINO truck.”

The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed on the part of the Sino truck which tried to negotiate the bend at Iju bridge on a high-speed loss control and crashed on the vehicles and then followed others.

The injured victims were taken to Ota General Hospital for medical attention.”

However, the road safety agency has advised motorists to shun speed and consider other road users to reduce the problem of crashes and the attendant loss of lives on our roads.
