18 Persons Dies In India Railway Bridge Collapse
Police have announced that at least 18 persons working on a railway bridge being built across a ravine in northeastern India lost their lives when it collapsed on Wednesday, with several others missing.
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga made it known that the incident happened near Sairang, about 20km (12 miles) from Mizoram’s state capital, Aizawl. According to the local media report, up to 40 workers were at the site when the bridge collapsed.
Senior local police officer Rex Zarzoliana Vanchhawng told the press that rescuers had retrieved 18 bodies.
In October last year, more than 140 people were killed in Gujarat when a pedestrian suspension bridge collapsed in India’s western state of Gujarat.
