2023 Emmy Awards Postponed Amid Hollywood Strike

The 2023 Emmy Awards which was scheduled to hold on September 18, has been postponed to a later date as a result of the ongoing Hollywood strike.

The TV academy and Fox would most likely postpone the event until January 2024, as the strikes show no signs of ending soon.

The Writers Guild of America began the industrial actions in May after efforts to solve labor disputes with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers proved futile. The union demands higher pay, especially residuals from streaming services.

The writers also requested a guarantee that Artificial Intelligence will only be used for research purposes and not a total replacement for their services.

The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists followed with a walkout in July also over the issue of dwindling pay and the threat posed by AI.

In response, AMPTP said it had offered “historic” pay rises and a “groundbreaking AI proposal” to actors, who had chosen “a path that will lead to financial hardship for countless thousands of people who depend on the industry.

While the WGA strike has already reduced the number of movies and shows in production, the actors’ industrial action has shut down both production and several industry events.

Due to the strike, actors cannot engage in film or television productions, promotions, awards, premieres, and other related events.
