The Grammy is the highest-ranking musical award globally. The award ceremony will be held on Sunday 4th February 2024. This means that music stars (including Nigerians) will be meeting tonight to contest for the Grammy.
Before the ceremony commences, we at Gist Alerts bring to you our early predictions of who the crown fits. Check out Ayra Starr and four other singers who will win big at the 66th Grammy Awards tonight:
Ayra Starr
Being ’22’ and winning is a privilege for fast-rising Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr. She has been nominated in the new category created by The Grammy; ‘African Music Performance’ with her debut song ‘Rush’.
‘Rush’ isn’t just a song but a ministration that tells a relatable story. The idea of you prospering amidst haters might be relatable to the judges’ minds tonight. Also, this is her first Grammy nomination. She will possibly clinch the award.
Burna Boy
Damini Ogulu whose stage name is Burna Boy has been acclaimed to be an “African Giant”. The reasons are not farfetched than this; “his music resonates with African culture, activism, and lifestyles”.
He won the Grammy in 2021 for ‘Best Global Music Album’, and he clinched four nominations this year.
Burna Boy has been nominated for ‘Best Global Music Performance’ (Alone), ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ for (Sittin on Top of the World), ‘Best Global Music Album’ (I Told Them), and ‘Best African Music Performance’ (City Boys).
He will also be making history as he has been selected alongside Brandy and 21 Savage, to headline the 66th Grammy.
Asake
Seeing fast-rising Nigerian musicians being recognized on the international scene is a pleasure to the mind. Asake would have doubted his nomination if it had been predicted.
The music star has been nominated at the 66th Grammy for ‘Best African Music Performance’ for his song “Amapiano (featuring Olamide)”. He will possibly wear the crown tonight.
Davido
A social media user asked this question; between Davido winning at the Grammy and Nigeria winning the AFCON, which is the best?
After years of being snubbed by The Recording Academy, singer Davido has finally been recognized as he bagged three nominations in the 2024 Grammy.
Davido has been nominated for ‘Best Global Music Album’ (Timeless), ‘Best African Music Performance’ (“Unavailable” featuring Musa Keys), and ‘Best Global Music Performance’ (Feel).
If we will be true to ourselves Davido’s ‘Feel’ is a hit, ‘Unavailable’ is globally accepted, and ‘Timeless’ arguably is Davido’s best sound so far. These three songs will probably win at the 2024 Grammy.
Tems
Tems won her first Grammy in 2023 for her contribution to Future’s hit single ‘Wait For U’. She won in the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’. Since then it has been a win-win for her career.
She has been nominated for the ‘Best Song Written For Visual Media’ category as a songwriter in Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me’ for the ‘Black Panther Wakanda Forever’ official soundtrack. The song has been highly rated as the best soundtrack for a movie and will possibly win tonight at the 66th Grammy.
