Just In: #EndSARS Memorial: Police Fire Teargas To Disperse Protesters At The Lekki Toll Gate, Arrests Two Protesters
The Nigerian police on Wednesday, 20th October, 2021, fired a tear gas at the Lekki tollgate where some celebrities such as Falz and Mr Macaroni, and youths held a memorial car procession in Lagos State to mark the first anniversary of #EndSARS in the country.
Lots of youths and celebrities went ahead with the procession irrespective of the threats from the Nigeria Police and regardless of the presence of armed security operatives before they were dispersed.
The procession, held in honor of victims of police brutality, and those allegedly shot by the police during last year protest, 20th October, 2020, was organized to mark the one year anniversary of the #EndSARS protests that led to the disbandment of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police.
Earlier today, operatives of the Lagos State Police Command arrested two protesters.
One of those arrested claimed to be a journalist while the other was seen carrying a placard.
The arrested journalist who spoke from a Lagos State Task Force van where he was locked by the police, identified himself as Abiola. He told some journalists present at the scene that he works with LegitTV and that his phone, driver’s license, and other documents were seized from him.
