Lukaku’s Injury Ruins Chelsea’s Defeat Of Malmo
Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner got injured as the holders earned their Champions League campaign back on track with a 4-0 win against Malmo on Wednesday.
Thomas Tuchel’s side brushed aside the Swedish minnows at Stamford Bridge thanks to Jorginho’s penalty brace and goals from Andreas Christensen and Kai Havertz.
But this second Group H victory, after losing to Juventus in their previous match, was ruined by the injuries to Belgium striker Lukaku and Germany forward Werner.
Andreas Christensen put Chelsea ahead early on with his first goal in 137 appearances for the club from Thiago Silva’s pass and Jorginho doubled the lead from the spot after Lukaku was fouled by Lasse Nielsen, the forward limping off with what looked like an ankle injury
The victory puts Chelsea second with six points, three behind Juventus who beat Zenit St Petersburg 1-0 in Russia. Malmo remain bottom without a point or a goal scored.
