LASTMA Organizes Campaign To Ensure Free Flow Of Traffic During The Festive Season
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has organized a campaign to make sure there is a free-flow of traffic during the yuletide season. The agency organized an ‘ember months meeting and advocacy with the Mile 12 Food Traders’ Executives on Thursday at the LASTMA headquarters in Oshodi.
In a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, LASTMA, Olumide Filade, the aim of the sensitization is to ensure a free flow of traffic all through the yuletide period and beyond. Also, the agency noted that there is the availability of the traders’ traffic enforcement wardens who would ensure strict adherence to the State’s traffic rules and regulations.
The statement partly read, “The General Manager of the agency, Bolaji Oreagba requested the cooperation of the traders’ executives in ensuring free flow of traffic throughout the yuletide season and beyond, especially as there is the availability of the traders’ traffic enforcement wardens who should ensure adherence to the State’s traffic rules and regulations.
“He opined that we should all cooperate to ensure that there is unhindered or hitch-free traffic during the celebrations in the interest of the sellers, buyers and the motoring public at large.
“The executives of the Mile 12 traders claim that they have an existing park that can accommodate five hundred vehicles. This necessitated the constitution of an inspection and recommendation committee to visit their park for assessment. The excos also promised to work with the National Union of Road Transport Workers to ensure compliance.”
It added that the General Manager of the agency would locate a heavy-duty towing vehicle at Mile 12 in case a truck breaks down.
“It was also agreed that trucks conveying food items should be summoned to the market between 8 pm and 5 am the following morning in order to avoid traffic gridlock especially during rush hours”.
In conclusion, Oreagba encouraged all road users to obey traffic laws always as they go about their activities this Yuletide season.
