Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, popularly known as Shia, went to a church in Lafia, Nasarawa state to celebrate with the Christian population on Christmas day.

They worshiped at the Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ [ERCC], Graceland Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Their leader, Mallam Muhammad Amin said that they were at the church to pray for the healing of the country as a whole and Nasarawa State in particular, as well as to rejoice with Christians on the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Mallam Muhammad stated that the birth of Jesus Christ was important to mankind hence the need for them to rejoice together in love as imprinted in the Holy Books, adding that the two major religions believe that Jesus Christ is the true Messiah.

According to Mallam Amin; ”We are today worshiping here with our Christian brothers and sisters to strengthen the bond of unity, oneness and to pray for the healing and forgiveness of our country and Nasarawa in particular”.

His colleague, Mallama Zainab Mohammed said there is no discrimination in worshiping God, therefore the need for people to be tolerant with one another regardless of their belief.

The Senior Pastor in charge of the Church, Reverend Habila Anthony had initially announced the presence of the Shia members stressing that the visit of the Muslims was genuine and urged the members not to panic.

He further described the visit of the Shia members as a sign of unity and love that both religions preach.
