Lagos State Government To Prosecute Event Centres For Safety Breach
Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made it known on Wednesday that event centres that breach the state’s safety rules and regulations that they will be prosecuted.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties and Inter-governmental Relations, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, gave this warning at a forum with event managers organised in conjunction with AQAATA Safety Company on Victoria Island, Lagos.
He said, “The government is not lenient in the process of prosecuting offenders of the event industry because we need to understand that change is something that people are not ready to imbibe”
“Lagos State is doing a lot to ensure the health and safety of citizens and residents of the state and I am quite optimistic that this gathering of various heads at the hotel and event planning industry would go a long way in acting as checks and balances to those to be violators and its consequences.”
The Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr Lanre Mojola, said, “This deliberation of this magnitude would assist the government to fashion out regulations and enforcement on whoever that contravenes, hence the gathering of various stakeholders to discuss and proffer solutions to any likely challenges that may arise.”
