Ayade Cancels Bikers’ Parade Over Fatal Accident

After an accident which allegedly took some lives, with several injured in Calabar, on Tuesday, Cross River State governor, Prof Ben Ayade, has expressed sadness over the incident, blaming it on an errant motorist who allegedly ploughed into a crowd that thronged the carnival route to watch the bikers’ parade.

The governor as a result cancelled the parade after the accident which happened at the Bogobiri axis of Mary Slessor Avenue. The victims were rushed to the hospital.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Chief Press Secretary, Christian Ita, Governor Ayade is devastated by the incident and has ordered security agencies to apprehend the motorist who is currently on the run.

He sympathised with the victims of the accident and their families and ordered a swift investigation to investigate how the motorist was able to get through security barricades to have access to the routes which were closed to the public.

The Governor thereafter directed the immediate discontinuation of the bikers parade in honour of the victims of the accident.

He promised to ensure the culprit is arrested and brought to book and called for calm.
