NLC Meet Governors Over Fuel Subsidy Palliatives

Weeks after the removal of fuel subsidy by  President Bola Tinubu, some state chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have started plans to negotiate with respective state governments on ways to reduce the effects of the removal of subsidy.

This is as the organised labour at the national level promised to ensure strict compliance with agreements reached in states.

The organised labour has been engaging the Federal Government to provide palliative measures to cushion the effect of subsidy removal on workers.

Representatives of the Federal Government and organised labour had since met with a committee set up to attend to the demands set by the NLC and TUC.

It is gathered that the committee has five weeks left to come up with its report.

Also, some state chapters of the NLC intend to meet with state governors over plans to cushion the effects of the subsidy.

Already some state governments, such as Kwara, Edo, Taraba among others, have announced special interventions for citizens but no standard interventions have been announced for workers.

Speaking in an interview, the state Chairman of the NLC in Abia State, Pascal Iheme, confirmed that the state NLC would meet with Governor Alex Otti on Wednesday.

“We are having a meeting with the state governor on Wednesday. The issue of subsidy will be discussed and also the implementation of the minimum wage. By Wednesday we will meet and you will get the updates,” he said.
