Ben Chilwell Ruled Out Until December After Picking Up Hamstring Injury
Chelsea’s vice-captain, Ben Chilwell is set to miss at least eight weeks after picking up a hamstring injury.
The 26-year-old suffered the injury in the closing stages of Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Brighton in the Carabao Cup last Wednesday.
Chilwell will now be unavailable during a key period in Chelsea’s season where Pochettino’s side play Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle United, Manchester City and Brighton.
England manager Gareth Southgate also faces a headache at left-back as both Chilwell and Luke Shaw will be absent for his side’s upcoming Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy.
When asked about the extent of Chilwell’s injury on Friday, Pochettino said: ‘Bad news.
‘The doctor told me it is a bad injury but we need to assess in the next few days.
‘The doctor will tell us and the club will communicate. Yes [it’s the same leg as last season]. I think so. It’s the mechanism of the action. He was a little bit unlucky in the way he suffered the injury. It’s very sad because he was having a very good game.’
