Mikel Arteta Wins Premier League Manager Of The Month Award For February
Arsenal’s head coach, Mikel Arteta has won the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award for February.
The Gunners fought their way back into the title race with an impressive month of results and performances, scoring a total of 18 goals in only four league matches.
Arsenal began the month with a must-win clash at home to title rivals Liverpool, and Arteta’s men came out on top with a fine 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.
A week later, the gunners exorcised some demons from last season’s failed title charge away at West Ham United, toppling the Hammers 6-0 at London Stadium. Saka got on the scoresheet once more with a brace, as did Trossard who grabbed the last of the Gunners’ four first-half goals. William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and former West Ham captain Declan Rice were also on target.
Another huge win followed away to Burnley, with Arsenal this time emerging as 5-0 victors. Saka once again secured a brace and Trossard was among the goals once more, while Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz bookended the scoring up at Turf Moor.
Arsenal’s fine February concluded with a comprehensive 4-1 win back at the Emirates Stadium against Newcastle. An own goal from Sven Botman broke the deadlock before Havertz and Saka put the Gunners three to the good, while Jakub Kiwior got in on the act in the second half before former Arsenal youth product Joe Willock pulled one back late on.
Arteta, who beat off competition from Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag, has been named the Premier League’s Manager of the Month on seven occasions since taking charge of Arsenal in December 2019. Only seven coaches have taken home the prize more than him, including Gunners legend Arsene Wenger.
