Suspected Killer Of FUNAAB Student Abducted In Lagos Arrested By Army
The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of Adeleye Ayomide, the primary suspect in the abduction and murder of Idowu Christiana, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State. Christiana was abducted on Monday, August 19, 2024, along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos State.
According to reports, the kidnapper initially demanded a ransom of N3 million from Christiana’s family. After several negotiations, the abductors accepted N350,000. Despite receiving the ransom, they refused to release her. Christiana was later found dead, prompting widespread calls for justice.
Lt-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, spokesperson for the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, confirmed Ayomide’s arrest. He stated that personnel from the 174 Battalion apprehended the suspect, who would be handed over to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation.
Ibrahim Adeyemi, the Student Union Government president of FUNAAB, also confirmed Christiana’s death, noting that she was reportedly killed by her abductor. The news has triggered widespread reactions, particularly on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where the hashtag #JusticeForChristiana has gained traction with over 90,000 posts.
Some social media users, including those close to the deceased, have pointed fingers at Ayomide, a Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), as the person responsible for her death. Many are demanding justice, calling for him to face the full extent of the law.
One user on X, Tommy (@Tommyjr277), expressed grief over Christiana’s death and called for swift justice, affirming that Ayomide was in custody at the 174 Battalion in Ikorodu. Another user, @Letter_to_Jack, detailed how Ayomide was tracked down through his mobile phone after investigators uncovered mutual interactions between him and Christiana on social media platforms.
The investigation revealed critical evidence, including Christiana’s blue ITEL A56 phone found with the suspect. Ayomide reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting to killing and burying Christiana. The public continues to await further developments as pressure mounts for swift action to ensure justice for Christiana.
