Bandits Strike Kaduna Hospital, Abduct Nurses, Patients, and Others

Bandits have attacked the Primary Healthcare Centre in Kuyallo, Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting two nurses and an unspecified number of patients. The attack took place on Monday, September 9, 2024, around 9 am.

Musa Alhassan, a leader of the local vigilante group, reported that the bandits initially targeted the nearby Government Day Secondary School. Upon finding the school empty, they shifted their focus to the healthcare centre, which is located nearby.

The bandits came to the school asking about the students, but when they realized it was empty, they headed to the healthcare centre and started abducting people,” Alhassan said. The attackers took two female nurses along with several patients, though the exact number of patients kidnapped remains unknown.

An eyewitness described the terrifying scene, explaining that the bandits, armed with guns and machetes, stormed the healthcare centre and forcibly dragged people out. The community was left in shock and panic as they were powerless to stop the abduction.

This incident is part of a growing wave of attacks by bandits in Kaduna State, raising concerns over the safety of local communities and critical institutions like healthcare centres.

As of the time of this report, the Kaduna State Police Command and state government officials have not confirmed the incident. Attempts to reach the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to phone calls or text messages.
