Peter Obi Open To Strategic Alliances Ahead Of 2027 Elections

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, has clarified his position regarding his political ambitions and openness to collaboration. In a viral interview on News Central Television, the former Anambra State governor sparked reactions, with many supporters of the Obidient Movement reaching out to confirm if he had abandoned his presidential aspirations. However, Obi has firmly stated that he remains committed to Nigeria’s development and the Labour Party.

In a series of posts on his official X handle on Saturday, Obi emphasized that his focus is not on personal ambition or securing a particular position, but rather on advancing Nigeria’s progress. He denied claims that he had shelved his presidential aspirations or that he had expressed willingness to serve as vice president to anyone.

“I do not want to be one of those preoccupied with 2027 while Nigerians are suffering from hunger, poverty, insecurity, and other pressing challenges,” Obi remarked. He reiterated his commitment to partnering with individuals who share his vision for a better Nigeria, provided their intentions are not rooted in state capture or merely winning elections.

Obi further addressed misrepresentations of his interview, stating, “My statement was unequivocal, and I am genuinely surprised by the misrepresentation of my words.” He clarified that his openness to collaboration does not compromise his commitment to the Labour Party and its goals, such as ensuring education for out-of-school children and tackling poverty.

Obi concluded by affirming that his dedication to Nigeria’s progress remains unwavering and that he is open to contributing to the nation’s development, whether in or out of public office.
