Osun State Cuts Workdays For Public Servants, Extends Palliative Payments

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved a reduction in the number of workdays for public servants as part of measures to alleviate the rising cost of transportation. The governor also announced an extension of palliative payments to public servants for an additional two months.

In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the new work schedule was detailed in a circular from the Office of the Head of Service. The move is part of Adeleke’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers amid the challenging economic situation in Nigeria.

The statement explained, “Public servants on Grade Levels (GL) 01 to 10 are to work three days a week, while those on GL 12 to 17 will work four days a week.” However, this adjustment excludes personnel on essential duties such as medical workers, security officers, political office holders, and accounting officers.

The days on which employees will work will be coordinated by the accounting officers within the respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Additionally, the statement confirmed the governor’s approval of ongoing palliative payments for the next two months, which will continue until the implementation of a new minimum wage. All MDAs and Local Governments have been directed to comply with the new measures.
