Kano Election: APC Pledges To Defend Votes
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has pledged to defend its votes in the upcoming local government elections, scheduled for October 24, 2024. The party’s commitment was announced by the state Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas in a telephone interview on Thursday.
Abbas disclosed that the APC is gearing up to hold primary elections to select its candidates for the 44 local government areas (LGAs) in the state. He assured that the party is taking significant steps to ensure its supporters participate fully in the election process.
“We are doing everything humanly possible to ensure that our teeming supporters participate in the elections,” Abbas said. He emphasized that the APC is mobilizing its base to protect their votes while also promoting a peaceful electoral process.
In a call for fairness, Abbas urged the state electoral commission to create an enabling environment for all political parties participating in the election. He demanded equal opportunity for all contestants and called for a transparent and impartial electoral process, along with a peaceful atmosphere throughout the election.
As part of its preparations, the party has launched a house-to-house sensitization campaign to encourage supporters to turn out in large numbers for the election across the 44 LGAs.
Abbas also urged APC supporters to avoid violence before, during, and after the elections, warning that the party will not tolerate any form of intimidation in the process. He reaffirmed that Kano remains an APC stronghold and emphasized the importance of maintaining the party’s lead in the state.
“We urge the commission to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, which is crucial for Nigeria’s democratic development,” Abbas added.
