Tragic Lagos Road Accident Claims 10 Lives
At least 10 people, including three children and seven adults, tragically lost their lives in a road accident that occurred on Tuesday night at the Abule Osun area of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Lagos State. The accident, which happened around 11 p.m., involved a Toyota Sienna vehicle that crashed into a stationary truck loaded with granite.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, revealed that the accident was caused by the Siena vehicle speeding and failing to notice the truck, which had taken up half of the road.
Oke-Osanyintolu explained, “Upon arrival at the scene at Abule Osun, inward Iyana Iba, it was discovered that the Toyota Sienna, with registration number BDG 342 FS, carrying passengers from the Eastern part of the country, collided with a parked SHACMAN truck.” Further investigations confirmed that the granite-laden truck, without registration details, was parked along the road, obstructing traffic.
The victims included three male adults, four female adults, two female children, and one male child. Additionally, three other passengers were critically injured and were rescued by officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) before LASEMA arrived. The injured, including one female adult and two children, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Sienna vehicle was recovered with the help of LASEMA’s Lite Tow Truck and transported to the FRSC station. The bodies of the deceased were bagged and awaited evacuation by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.
This tragic incident follows a similar accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday, where two passengers lost their lives after falling from a moving vehicle near the Mountain Top area. The victims reportedly collided with a bridge after standing up in the vehicle and failing to notice its height, leading to their fatal fall.
