Ogun Declares Work-Free Day, Restricts Movement Ahead Of Local Government Elections

The Ogun State Government declared Friday, November 15, 2024, a work-free day to allow civil servants to travel to their respective local government areas and participate in Saturday’s local government elections. The announcement was made in a circular signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to fostering active civic participation.

Governor Dapo Abiodun approved the work-free day to ensure that residents can engage fully in the democratic process across the state’s 20 local governments and 237 wards. According to the circular, this initiative reflects the governor’s dedication to enhancing democratic values and empowering citizens to perform their civic duties without obstacles.

Furthermore, the government announced restrictions on the movement of people and vehicles during the election on Saturday, November 16, 2024. The restrictions will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to ensure a smooth and secure voting process. Residents are advised to plan accordingly and inform family and friends about the movement restrictions.

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) is organizing the election, which will determine the chairpersons for the 20 local government areas and councillors for the 236 wards. The government has urged all citizens to comply with the directives and actively participate in the process to strengthen the state’s democratic framework.
