NSCDC Arrests Two Suspected Vandals In Kano
Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano have apprehended two individuals suspected of vandalizing public infrastructure, including a Juma’at mosque and electricity installations.
Mosque Vandal Nabbed with Solar Battery
The first suspect, Murtala Aliyu Muhd, a 35-year-old resident of Dawakin Dakata quarters in Nassarawa Local Government Area, was arrested for breaking into the Dakata Juma’at Mosque late at night. According to a statement by the NSCDC Kano State Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, Murtala entered the mosque through a window and stole a solar energy battery used to power the worship center.
The suspect was intercepted the next day at a checkpoint while attempting to sell the stolen battery. During questioning, he failed to provide a credible explanation for its origin. Abdullahi also revealed that the suspect had previously confessed to stealing ₦300,000 from the same mosque.
Transformer Vandal Arrested with Armoured Cables
In a separate incident, NSCDC operatives arrested Musbahu Sani, a 19-year-old resident of Darmanawa quarters in Tarauni Local Government Area, for vandalizing an electricity installation. Sani was caught with large armoured cables, which he admitted were stolen from a transformer in Darmanawa.
According to Abdullahi, the suspect was intercepted by NSCDC personnel along Court Road in Gyadi-Gyadi while en route to sell the stolen cables at the market.
Legal Action Pending
Abdullahi stated that investigations are ongoing and that both suspects will be charged in court.
“Following the investigation, both suspects will be prosecuted to ensure justice and deter further vandalism,” he said.
Rising Concern Over Vandalism
These arrests highlight the growing challenge of infrastructure vandalism in Kano. The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to protecting public assets and ensuring that perpetrators face the full weight of the law. The agency urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
