Obasanjo Debunks Death Rumors, Hails Osun’s Infrastructure Strides
Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has refuted widespread rumors of his death circulating on social media, affirming that he is alive and in good health. Obasanjo addressed the issue on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Old Garage/Oke Fia-Lameco Dual Carriageway in Osogbo, Osun State. The event was part of activities marking the second anniversary of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.
“I Am Alive and Well”
Reacting to the death rumors, Obasanjo expressed disbelief at the intentions of those spreading false news about him.
“I heard the rumor that I was dead. I saw it on social media,” he said. “I quickly told my children and my relations that it was not true and that I was alive. Those who want me dead, that is their wish, but God still keeps me alive.”
Obasanjo criticized the misuse of technology to spread baseless rumors, describing it as disturbing and unacceptable. “Why would anyone wish me dead? Those who harbor such thoughts will not escape tragedy themselves,” he added.
Governor Adeleke’s Achievements Highlighted
Governor Ademola Adeleke used the occasion to outline the accomplishments of his administration in infrastructure development. He highlighted several key projects, including:
•The construction of over 120 kilometers of roads across Osun State.
•Progress on two major flyovers in Osogbo.
•Ongoing work on the Ile-Ife flyover and the Ilesa road dualization project.
•The dualization of Odoori-Adeeke Road in Iwo, with plans to complete it in two phases.
Adeleke emphasized that these projects were executed without taking loans, attributing the progress to effective financial management, including blocking revenue leakages and employing local content to reduce costs.
Commitment to Development
Governor Adeleke reassured Osun residents of his administration’s dedication to meeting the state’s infrastructure and social needs.
“For all our projects and programs, we did not obtain any loan. We only block leakages in the state’s finances and enforce high standards,” he said. “For the second half of our government, I reassure all sons and daughters of Osun State that we will complete all ongoing projects and continue to address the infrastructure and social needs of our people.”
The event underscored the state government’s focus on development while also providing a platform for Obasanjo to dispel baseless rumors about his health and affirm his resilience.
