Goodluck Jonathan Lauds Siminalayi Fubara, Urges Unity Amid Rivers State Political Turmoil

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has offered words of encouragement to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid ongoing political challenges, affirming that the adversity he faces will shape him into a seasoned political leader. Jonathan spoke during the 1st Etche Festival of Food, Art, and Culture Exhibition held in Nihi, Etche Local Government Area, Rivers State.

The event also marked the 10th anniversary of the coronation of His Royal Highness, Eze Ken O. Nwala, as the Onye Ishi Agwuru III of Ulakwo-Umuselem. During the ceremony, Governor Fubara was conferred with the chieftaincy title Dike Oha 1 of Etche Land by the Supreme Council of Etche Traditional Rulers, while Jonathan received the title of Eze Udo 1 of Etche Land.

Jonathan’s Counsel to Fubara

Acknowledging the governor’s ongoing political crisis, including a fallout with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, and a failed impeachment attempt, Jonathan likened leadership challenges to battles that prepare leaders for greatness.

I know you are passing through challenges…nobody becomes a General without fighting wars,” Jonathan said, urging Fubara to remain focused on governance and not allow distractions to derail his administration. He expressed confidence that the people of Rivers State would support Fubara in navigating these trials.

Jonathan also emphasized the strategic importance of Rivers State to Nigeria’s unity and economy, stating, “If we create serious perturbation in Rivers State, we are creating crisis in the Niger Delta, which is not good for our economy as a nation.” He called for peace and cooperation, highlighting the transient nature of political office and the need for leaders to focus on development and stability.

Fubara’s Gratitude and Pledge

In his response, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged to continue implementing projects aimed at improving the lives of Rivers State residents. He commended Jonathan for his unwavering support during the state’s turbulent political climate.

Let me thank our father for coming to grace this occasion…He has stood with me in this most difficult period of our administration,” Fubara remarked.

Celebrating Etche Culture and Agriculture

The event also celebrated the Etche people’s agricultural heritage, cementing their reputation as the food basket of Rivers State. Jonathan praised Eze Nwala’s achievements over his decade-long reign and commended the Etche community for their contributions to food production and cultural preservation.

The gathering underscored the unity of Rivers State’s leaders and traditional institutions in navigating political tensions and fostering development.
