Makinde Vows PDP Will Teach APC A Political Lesson In 2026 And 2027 Elections
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will deliver a decisive political defeat to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2026 Osun State governorship election and the 2027 Oyo State gubernatorial race. Makinde dismissed the ambition of APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, to capture the two states as unrealistic.
Speaking in Osogbo on Wednesday during the inauguration of the dual carriage road linking the Stadium Roundabout, Oke Baale Roundabout, and Ilesa Garage Roundabout, Makinde said Ganduje’s prediction that the APC would take over Osun and Oyo states lacked basis.
Makinde, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, criticized Ganduje’s statement, made after the APC’s victory in Ondo and Edo governorship elections, as misguided. He noted that the people of Osun State, under Governor Ademola Adeleke, had embraced progress and would reject APC’s overtures in the next election.
Commendation for Adeleke’s Leadership
Makinde congratulated Osun residents on their decision to elect Adeleke two years ago, commending the governor’s efforts to deliver dividends of democracy. He praised Adeleke’s commitment to completing projects initiated by previous administrations, such as the dual carriage road project, emphasizing the importance of continuity in governance.
“This road was started by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, but Governor Adeleke completed it. Such continuity ensures value for public funds and the progress of our people. It cements your position as a leader who prioritizes people over politics,” Makinde said.
Makinde further lauded Adeleke for adopting pro-people policies and implementing impactful projects, noting that his governance style exemplifies true progressivism in the South-West.
On the Upcoming Elections
Makinde expressed confidence in the PDP’s dominance in Osun and Oyo, urging voters to continue supporting leaders who deliver results. He said, “Two years ago, the people of Osun made a choice for progress by moving from APC to PDP. When they come again, we will show them that we are resolute, law-abiding people who demand results.”
Encouraging Adeleke to seek another term, Makinde pledged his unwavering support, adding that the PDP governors in the South-West were leading a movement for transformative leadership in the region.
Economic and Developmental Focus
Makinde highlighted the significance of the newly inaugurated road for Osun’s economic development, urging residents to value their properties along the axis, as the infrastructure would boost property values. He also praised Adeleke’s success with the “Light-Up Osun” initiative, which has delivered 250 kilometers of street lighting.
“Development follows infrastructure. This road and the lighting projects demonstrate how leadership can directly impact people’s
