Davido Highlights Leadership Deficit As Nigeria’s Major Challenge
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has highlighted the crucial role of effective leadership in unlocking Nigeria and Africa’s vast potential. Speaking in an interview with Elevate Africa, published Thursday on YouTube, the internationally acclaimed artist emphasized that good governance is the foundation for the continent’s progress.
“We need the best leaders now first, that’s the most important thing,” Davido said. He noted that while Nigerians are resilient and resourceful, the absence of visionary leadership has impeded the nation’s development.
When asked about Africa’s potential and how music can contribute to its growth, Davido praised the determination and adaptability of Nigerians. “I tell people, if you can survive in Lagos, or Nigeria rather, you can survive anywhere. I feel like we’re survivors; we’re strong-willed people,” he remarked.
Nigeria’s Global Influence
Davido also celebrated the global presence and influence of Nigerians, which he believes showcases the nation’s strength. “If you go anywhere in the world, everybody has Nigerian friends. Whether you’re Chinese or whatever, you have Nigerian friends. Nigerian restaurants and communities are everywhere,” he said, adding that this global footprint demonstrates the country’s ability to lead on the world stage.
Despite the challenges faced by many Nigerians, Davido views the country as a “force” with the capacity for greatness. However, he reiterated that achieving this potential depends on the emergence of capable and visionary leaders.
“I just feel the only thing missing is the right leaders to lead us. Once we get that right, I don’t think there’s anything that will stop us,” he concluded.
The Role of Music in Africa’s Growth
Throughout the interview, Davido hinted at the transformative power of music as a unifying and inspiring tool for societal change. As one of the most prominent ambassadors of Afrobeats, his work not only entertains but also amplifies the voices and stories of Africans on a global stage.
Davido’s call for effective leadership resonates with growing demands from Nigerians and Africans at large, who seek a future defined by progress, equity, and good governance. His message underscores the collective potential of a continent ready to rise, provided it is steered by leaders committed to the common good.
