Lagos State To Host 18th Annual Town Hall Meeting On Security

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is set to preside over the 18th annual town hall meeting on security, scheduled to take place on December 18, 2024, at Lagos House, Ikeja. Themed “Data & Technology Driven Security: The Way Forward,” the meeting aims to bring together key stakeholders to discuss innovative approaches to improving security in the state.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, described the event as a significant summit for security stakeholders. He highlighted that a major highlight of the event would be the presentation of patrol vehicles and other equipment to security operatives, demonstrating the government’s commitment to enhancing operational capacity.

Focus on the Lagos State Security Trust Fund

During the event, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Rasaq Balogun, will present an account of his stewardship. Other security chiefs are also expected to deliver insights and updates on their operations in the state.

Established in 2007, the LSSTF has played a pivotal role in combating violent crimes in Lagos, particularly bank robberies. Omotoso noted that the Trust Fund’s efforts have yielded significant results, with the state recording no bank robberies in the last five years.

Leveraging Data and Technology

The meeting’s theme underscores the increasing importance of data and technology in combating modern security challenges. Stakeholders will explore how advanced tools and analytics can enhance surveillance, crime prevention, and response strategies across the state.

Commitment to Safety

This town hall meeting reaffirms Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to maintaining Lagos as a secure environment for residents, businesses, and visitors. By fostering collaboration among government, private sector stakeholders, and security agencies, the state continues to set a benchmark for proactive and community-driven security initiatives.

The event is expected to conclude with actionable strategies that align with global best practices for ensuring safety and resilience in urban centers.
