Governor Fubara Advocates Unity And Development, Inaugurates Eze Oha Apara Palace
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, emphasizing that political disagreements will not hinder the equitable distribution of development projects across the state. The governor made this declaration during the inauguration of the Eze Oha Apara Palace for Eze Worlu-Wodo, the Paramount Ruler of Ekinigbo and Eze Oha Apara IV, in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, on Thursday.
Commitment to Peace and Innovation
Governor Fubara stressed the importance of resolving conflicts through peaceful means and innovation, stating, “No matter the level of provocation, we don’t use fights to resolve fights. We use peace and apply Artificial Intelligence to defeat troublemakers.”
He reiterated that public funds are meant for the benefit of all Rivers people and that his administration would not exclude any community or local government area from accessing the dividends of democracy due to political differences.
Palace Inauguration: A Symbol of Respect
The newly inaugurated palace stands as a testament to the recognition and respect accorded to the traditional institution in Rivers State. The governor described it as a befitting structure that enhances the dignity of the Eze Oha Apara and serves as a communal legacy.
“We saw this palace under construction and felt it was necessary to complete it. Our traditional rulers deserve a respectable place for their status among peers,” he said.
The palace complex includes:
•An eight-bedroom main palace with three sitting rooms.
•A 500-capacity people’s hall with additional meeting rooms.
•A VIP hall and a guest house with two one-bedroom apartments and four suite units.
Development Projects in Obio/Akpor
Governor Fubara highlighted ongoing projects in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, including:
•An ultra-modern general hospital, the first in the area.
•An upgraded neuro-psychiatric hospital to address mental health challenges.
•A palace for the Akpor King, scheduled for inauguration in February 2025.
•Reconstruction of bad roads in the region.
Traditional Title Conferred
As part of the event, Eze Worlu-Wodo, who chairs the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, conferred the title of “Enwa Gbaga Nu Ohna” (The Moon That Shines in Ikwerre Land) on Governor Fubara, in recognition of his efforts to promote unity and development in the state.
Support from Traditional Leaders
The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu V, commended Governor Fubara’s dedication to the traditional institution, describing the palace as a manifestation of his goodwill and leadership. He urged the governor to remain focused despite political distractions, emphasizing, “Do not let them distract you. Shut out the noise and focus on delivering the dividends of democracy.”
A Call for Legacy Projects
The Obong also called on other governors to emulate Governor Fubara by investing in people-oriented projects and strengthening traditional institutions, which he described as vital to societal stability and cultural heritage.
