Just In: Afenifere Spokesman, Yinka Odumakin Is Dead
Yinka Odumakin, National Publicity Secretary of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, is dead.
This was confirmed by his wife, Mrs Joe Okei-Odumakin who has been in tears since the incident occurred.
Odumakin died at the LASUTH intensive care unit.
A group of Yoruba leaders has rushed to the residence of Afenifere leader, Ayo Adebanjo, to break the sad news to him.
According to the wife, “A part of me is gone. A part of me is gone. He fought hard at the intensive care unit. Pray for me to survive this. My love is gone.
“He was OK before. Even on March 10 he was still attending meetings. He was recovering yesterday but he died this morning. I am at the intensive care unit. A part of me is gone,” she added.
Odumakin was a renowned human rights activist who played a major role in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) that fought the era of General Sani Abacha after the dissolution of June 12, 1993 election.
Alongside that, he was one of the spokespersons of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum (SMBLF), the body that stands for ethnic nationalities in the South-West, South-South, South-East, and the Middle Belt.
He has strongly fought against the activities of some killers in Yorubaland.
Some of his close associates and colleagues have taken to social media to pay their tributes.
A lot of them described him as a man who stood for what he believed and lived as a hero.
