After several unsuccessful attempts to score including Bruno Fernandez’s half-volley which was saved by the powerful hands of Keylor Navas, Antony tapped in a parried ball by the goalkeeper into an open net to finally put United upfront – It was the Brazilian’s first league goal since October.
Eleven minutes after the break, Fernandez almost doubled United’s lead with a ferocious shot inside the 18-yard but was pulled away by Navas as the ball struck the upright out for a corner kick. The former Real Madrid goalkeeper would go on to make more incredible saves.
In the 76th minute, Antony who has been brilliant from the start of the match dribbled past several Forest’s players from the left side of the pitch to the center and laid a clean pass to Dalot who went clear on goal and past Navas to score his first career Premier League goal, sealing the important win for the Red Devils.
It was the Red Devils’ fourth victory over Nottingham Forest across all competitions this season including two in the League Cup. The win placed United third on the table with three points ahead of Newcastle United who was defeated 3-0 by Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday.
