APC Accuses INEC of Collusion With APGA Over CTC Delay
The All Progressives Congress in Anambra State has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of collaborating with the All Progressives Grand Alliance to delay the release of the Certified True Copies of the materials used for the November 6 and 9 governorship election in the state.
Members of the party raised the alarm at the end of its stakeholders meeting in Awka on Friday.
Both the candidates of the APC, Andy Uba and the All progressives Grand Alliance, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, had filed ex parte motions before the tribunal asking it to compel INEC to allow them to inspect the materials used in the conduct of the elections.
The Anambra State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Awka on December 9, 2021, had granted the prayers of both candidates to inspect the materials used for the elections.
However, at the end of the APC stakeholders meeting, the party said INEC was afraid of releasing the materials almost a month after it had been compelled to do so by the tribunal because, according to the party, “INEC concocted the result for APGA”.
This, the party said is making INEC afraid to release the election materials because it would find it difficult to defend.
In a statement on Friday, the Media Director of the APC Governorship Campaign Organisation, Mr Ikechukwu Onyia, said the results INEC announced was so “conspicuously frivolous” that it would find difficult to defend.
Onyia said, “The collaboration between INEC and APGA that produced the results that they are finding difficult to defend is not only interesting too, but a threat to democracy. The results they announced to the public is also as interesting as what they are hiding. As for what they are hiding, it will soon be exposed beyond the cover.
“Do you still ask if there was something INEC is hiding as regards the November election and their declaration of the APGA candidate as the governor-elect? Well, what they are hiding is interesting.
“The most interesting is that we are in court to prove that bribing institutions and individuals won’t always thrive. The good thing is that no amount of APGA media blackmail can stop Andy Uba/APC and every man and woman of conscience from interrogating the entire processes in the tribunal.”
However, the National Co-ordinator of APGA Media Forum, Evang. Chinedu Obigwe, dismissed the APC claims, describing it as “old lies and tantamount to flogging a dead horse.”
Obigwe said Ndi Anambra rejected the APC and its cooked up lies to vote for the continuation of the APGA government in the state and does not have anything to do with INEC.
He said, “It is laughable that the Andy Uba group is still swimming in old lies and spreading the old lies with the hope that they will use it to score cheap political points against the victory of APGA at the election.
“Throughout the electioneering campaign period, the Uba group and their supporters cooked up many lies against APGA and they did their best to use spreading of the politically motivated lies to convince Ndi Anambra to vote for APC but the people of Anambra rejected them and voted for APGA because they know the reality on the ground in the state.
“So for them to still be telling their old lies now that the election is over is tantamount to flogging a dead horse. APGA is not INEC, if they have issues with INEC, they should face it and stop mentioning APGA.
“The people of Anambra rejected them totally at the election and now they are bereft of anything meaningful to say against APGA.”
