ASUU Stages Protest Against Dismissal Of LASU Lecturers Today
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos Zone, is set to hold a rally today in support of five lecturers dismissed by the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo. The union alleges that the lecturers were unjustly dismissed by the university’s administration.
A letter from ASUU, made available to the press on Monday, described the university’s decision as illegal and labeled LASU’s leadership as “inept, inglorious, and vindictive.” The rally, titled the National Day of Solidarity Rally, will begin at 10 a.m. as a show of support for the dismissed lecturers.
The dismissed lecturers, including Isaac Oyewumi (ASUU chairman), Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu (vice-chairman), Dr. Tony Dansu (secretary), Adeolu Oluwaseyi Oyekan (assistant secretary), and Oluwakemi Aboderin-Shonibare (treasurer), were removed from their positions in 2019. LASU management had accused them of unauthorized removal, retention, and distribution of confidential documents.
However, the lecturers have consistently denied these allegations, maintaining that they were wrongfully dismissed. The rally is part of ongoing efforts by ASUU to secure their reinstatement and challenge what it describes as an unjust action by LASU authorities.
