Chimamanda Loses Mother Eight Months After Her Father’s Death

Grace Ifeoma Adichie, mother to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Nigerian novelist-cum-feminist, has passed on. Sources close to the family confirmed the news on Tuesday morning.

According to the source, the 78-year-old had her last breath on Monday in Awka, Anambra state.

The circumstances which led her death were, however,not immediately disclosed.

While burial arrangements are being made, Ifeoma’s death comes eight months after she had lost her husband James Adichie,who died of a brief illness.

The ace novelist had last year narrated how her father’s death left her unsettled.

“Because I loved my father very much, so fiercely, so tenderly, I always at the back of my mind feared this day. But he was in good health. I thought we had time,” she had written.

She is survived by her six children: Ijeoma, Uchenna, Chuks, Okechukwu, Chimamanda and Kenechukwu; as well as nine grandchildren, in-laws and many relatives.
