Cristiano Ronaldo Completes Stunning Manchester United Comeback Against Atlanta
Manchester United needed another Champions League fightback finished off by Cristiano Ronaldo as they came from two goals down to defeat Atalanta 3-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Goals from Mario Pasalic and Merih Demiral had Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men on course for a fifth defeat in eight games.
However, United’s attacking arsenal blew the Italians away after the break as Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire scored before Ronaldo powered home a header nine minutes from time.
Ronaldo also scored a 96th-minute winner against Villarreal in United’s previous Champions League game to mask an otherwise unconvincing performance.
The victory has given United a lifeline in the Champions League when, for 45 minutes at least, they looked to be down and out.
Indeed, they spent much of the evening rooted to the bottom of Group F but, by the end, they were top. Still, much like that dramatic win against Villarreal a few weeks ago, it is a result that papers over the cracks.
The Red Devils will hope the fight they showed in the second half acts as a catalyst ahead of their meeting with Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.
