Dignitaries, Leaders Celebrate Bishop Oyedepo On His 70th Birthday
Tributes have continued to pour in for the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, as he celebrated his 70th birthday on Friday. The celebration, which was held at the church’s headquarters in Ota, Ogun State, attracted notable dignitaries from across Nigeria, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Former President Obasanjo, in his remarks, praised Oyedepo for his humility and his significant contributions to Nigeria and beyond. “This day is a great day for Bishop Oyedepo and his family. He started something small in Lagos and then came to Ota, building something that has put Ota on the map of Nigeria, Africa, and the world,” Obasanjo noted. He described the rapid development of the church as near miraculous and commended Oyedepo for his close relationship with God, wishing him continued success as he joined the club of septuagenarians.
President Bola Tinubu, in his tribute, acknowledged Oyedepo’s influence through his missionary work and social contributions, especially in education and healthcare. Tinubu noted that Oyedepo’s work has consistently brought pride to Nigeria.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also honored Oyedepo for his dedication to God’s kingdom and his philanthropic efforts. He described the Bishop as a role model whose impact extends far beyond the church.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), represented by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, hailed Oyedepo as a “legend of faith” and praised his transformational leadership. Archbishop Margaret Idahosa, widow of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa, expressed her gratitude for Oyedepo’s generosity and constant support, referring to him as a spiritual father to many.
Other notable figures, including Bishop Mike Okonkwo of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission, congratulated Oyedepo for his resilience and commitment to his calling. Okonkwo expressed confidence that many more years of fruitful service awaited him.
In his sermon, Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God expressed joy for Oyedepo’s life and his spiritual impact. Adeboye noted the significant role Oyedepo played in transforming Ota, which was once known for its association with witchcraft, into a spiritual stronghold.
Bishop Oyedepo, in his response, expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of love and the grace of God in his life. He humbly attributed his success to divine grace, stating, “I am not an achiever as you may think. I am only a blessed partaker of the manifold grace of God.” He reaffirmed his reliance on Jesus Christ, whom he credited for all his victories and triumphs, and expressed his continued commitment to his faith and mission.
The event was marked by a spirit of celebration and thanksgiving, as dignitaries, church members, and well-wishers celebrated the life and legacy of one of Nigeria’s most prominent religious leaders.
