Drivers Needs To Rest Well Before Embarking On Journey – FRSC

On Tuesday, The Ogun Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Akinwumi Fasaki, in Abeokuta advised motorists to ensure they get enough rest before embarking on any journey.

The Sector Commander, in a statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, Mrs Florence Okpe, urged drivers to always ensure maximum rest to be able to function properly.

Drivers should have a rest period of between 15 and 30 minutes after four hours of driving,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Fasaki gave this advice in reaction to Monday’s accident in the state, in which four persons lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries.

The accident, which occurred around 2 p.m., involved a Toyota Hiace bus at RCC in Ogbere on the Sagamu-Benin expressway.

Okpe, who confirmed the incident, had explained that the accident was caused by fatigue on the part of the bus driver which led to loss of control.

”The vehicle hit the road divider, somersaulted, and caught fire”, she said.

The FRSC spokesperson said 18 people, eight men and 10 women, were involved in the accident.

Four men and four women sustained injuries, while one man and three women died in the accident.

“The accident involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number XA 690 AKU”, she said.

Okpe disclosed that the injured persons were taken to the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode while the deceased were deposited at the same hospital’s morgue.
