Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has approved a Christmas bonus of ₦150,000 for every civil servant in the state. The announcement was made by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Monday Uzor, in a Facebook post on Thursday night.

Uzor confirmed that the bonus will be disbursed to all state workers by 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. “Every worker in Ebonyi State service will receive ₦150,000 as a Christmas bonus before 1 pm on Tuesday,” the post read.

Commitment to Workers’ Welfare

This announcement comes weeks after Governor Nwifuru approved a new minimum wage of ₦75,000 for civil servants in the state. The implementation of the minimum wage, which began in October, reflects the government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare amidst the prevailing economic challenges.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Governor Nwifuru explained that the decision to increase the minimum wage followed a thorough assessment of the country’s economic situation and its impact on workers.

Civil servants on Grade Level 2 will now receive the full minimum wage of ₦75,000, while those on Grade Level 3 and above will enjoy an incremental increase of ₦40,000 across the board,” the statement noted.

Boosting Morale During the Festive Season

The Christmas bonus is expected to significantly boost the morale of workers, ensuring a festive celebration for families across the state. Governor Nwifuru’s administration has been praised for prioritizing the welfare of civil servants and addressing their financial needs during challenging times.

The Governor’s gesture underscores his commitment to supporting the state workforce and fostering a productive relationship between the government and its employees.
