Edo State Governor Okpebholo Celebrates Unity And Love At 2024 Christmas Carol
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, emphasized the unifying values of Christmas during the 2024 Edo Christmas Carol held on Sunday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. Addressing attendees, the governor highlighted Christmas as a season of love, hope, and unity, transcending tribal, religious, and political differences.
The event drew a distinguished audience, including the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor; former Speakers of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Justin Okonoboh and Francis Okiye; Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa; other government officials, religious and traditional leaders, and civil servants.
Governor’s Message of Unity
In his address, Governor Okpebholo noted:
“Christmas is a time of love, hope, and unity. It is also a season that reminds us of the importance of compassion, generosity, and peace. This carol symbolizes much more than singing and entertainment; it is a testament to the values that bind us as one people, regardless of tribe, religion, and political differences.
“Together, we can build a brighter and more inclusive tomorrow. On behalf of the entire leadership of our beloved State, I wish you all a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.”
Highlights of the Carol
The 2024 Christmas Carol featured performances by choirs from various denominations, including Living Faith Church, Miracle Assembly, Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Church of God Mission, and EL Excess Band. Special performances were delivered by the Theatre Arts Department from the University of Benin and renowned artist Leetu Man.
Bible readings were conducted in both English and Pidgin by notable individuals, including the Administrator of the Office of the First Lady, Edesili Anani-Okpebholo, representatives of vegetable sellers, a bus driver, a returnee, and others, reflecting the inclusivity of the event.
Raffle Draw and Prizes
In a bid to make the celebration memorable for Edo people, Governor Okpebholo instituted a raffle draw, with prizes including a minibus, tricycle, generators, sewing machines, and grinding machines, among other items.
