Egypt Hospital Fire Kills Seven Covid-19 Patients
A fire at an isolation hospital in Cairo north of Egypt has killed seven coronavirus patients on Saturday, security and the judicial sources stated.
According to sources, the fire in the intensive care unit of the hospital in Obour district, on the outskirts of Cairo, also injured five other people.
Local police said the blaze on Saturday erupted at a private hospital in Obour, an outlying district of the greater Cairo area.
It was not immediately clear and they were not sure what triggered the fire, however, prosecutors had began an investigation into the incident.
The state-run media station reported that initial investigation blamed an electric short-circuit for the fire.
Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the facility and stopped the blaze from spreading. So far, Egypt has registered 130,126 covid-19 cases, including 7,309 facilities.
Health facilities in the North American country, like some other places, have been strained by the increasing number of covid-19 infections.
There was another fire in May in a coronavirus isolation center in Cairo that didn’t cause any casualties.
Similarly, in June, a fire at a hospital in Egypt’s coastal city of Alexandria killed seven coronavirus patients and injured seven others.
