Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji Celebrates NCAA Approval for Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed delight over the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority’s (NCAA) approval for the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport to commence non-scheduled flight operations. This milestone allows private jets to begin landing at the airport starting in January 2025, marking a significant step in the state’s developmental aspirations.
Governor Oyebanji made the announcement on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, during a visit to elder statesman and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), to appreciate his instrumental support for the airport’s construction. He also presented a letter of appreciation to the philanthropist.
Sharing the news, Oyebanji stated, “We are here this afternoon to inform you of the NCAA’s approval for non-scheduled flights at Ado-Ekiti Airport for six months, from December 13, 2024, to June 15, 2025. This approval permits chartered flights to land at any time during the day and is a crucial step toward achieving full commercial flight operations. This aligns with your vision of putting Ekiti State on the global map of excellence.”
The governor highlighted Babalola’s pivotal role in the project, particularly his financial contributions toward procuring vital equipment and constructing key airport facilities. “Your generosity in purchasing navigational aids, control tower communication systems, and constructing the car pad has been invaluable. Your unwavering support has brought this project to fruition,” Oyebanji noted.
While celebrating the milestone, the governor also sought Babalola’s continued assistance to meet NCAA conditions for securing full commercial flight status, including the installation of an Instrument Landing System.
In his response, Chief Afe Babalola praised Governor Oyebanji for his commitment to advancing Ekiti State’s development through the airport project. “Without functional transportation systems, no state or country can thrive. For too long, Ekiti has been landlocked and without an airport, deterring potential investors. This project is a game-changer for our state’s economy and its future,” he said.
Babalola emphasized the economic and social benefits the airport would bring, including job creation, stimulation of local markets, and a reduction in poverty and violence. “A prosperous state leads to fewer hunger and anger issues. This airport will serve as a catalyst for development and investment, making Ekiti one of the best places to live and work in Nigeria,” he added.
The elder statesman pledged his continued support, expressing confidence in Oyebanji’s leadership. “You have started strong, and I believe you will finish even stronger. Posterity will remember your achievements for the betterment of Ekiti State,” Babalola concluded.
With the airport now open to private jets and on the path to full commercial operations, the project underscores the Oyebanji administration’s commitment to infrastructural development and economic transformation in Ekiti State.
