Everton Sacks Coach Benitez After Six Months In Charge

Rafael Benitez has been relieved of his duties as Everton’s head coach on Sunday after six months in charge of the struggling Premier League club.

Benitez was an unpopular appointment in June last year after his long spell with Everton’s Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

“Everton Football Club can confirm the departure of Rafael Benitez as first-team manager,” a club statement said.

The 61-year-old signed a three-year deal when he took over from Carlo Ancelotti in the summer, an unpopular appointment with many Everton fans due to his past links to their Merseyside rivals.

Everton have lost nine of their past 13 league games, including a 4-1 home defeat by Merseyside rivals Liverpool and a 5-2 home defeat against relegation strugglers Watford.
