FCT Police Ban Firecrackers Ahead Of Festive Season
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced a ban on the use of firecrackers, commonly known as knockouts, ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations. The decision, aimed at ensuring the safety of lives and property, was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh.
Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu explained that the measure seeks to prevent incidents associated with firecracker usage, such as unnecessary panic, fire outbreaks, and other avoidable hazards.
This ban is implemented to ensure the safety of all residents and to protect lives and property throughout the festive season,” Disu stated. He noted that firecrackers often cause fear and anxiety in communities, stressing that the prohibition is necessary to maintain peace and security. He further warned that anyone caught using or selling firecrackers would face arrest and prosecution.
The command has called on community leaders and residents to support public awareness campaigns highlighting the dangers of firecrackers. Residents were also urged to comply with the directive and report any suspicious activities or violations of the ban via the command’s emergency hotlines.
Disu reassured residents of the police’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order throughout the holiday season, encouraging everyone to celebrate responsibly and prioritize safety.
The FCT Police Command’s proactive approach aligns with efforts to ensure a peaceful and incident-free festive period for all residents in the territory.
