FG Commences Benin-Sagamu Road Repairs
The Federal Road Maintenance Agency has commenced maintenance work on failing parts of the Benin-Sagamu motorway.
The Federal Road Maintenance engineer in Edo State, Muktar Abdulrahim, stated that the agency had successfully addressed the issue of the large opening on the bridge at Isoko camp, a notorious spot known for causing traffic congestion.
The repair works came weeks after the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, tackled the Federal Government for abandoning the road.
Abdulrahim said, “The failure on the bridge has been fixed, and we are waiting for the concrete to dry before it can be reopened for use. We use this medium to appeal to motorists and other road users to exercise patience while the concrete undergoes the curing period.
“We have observed that these failures are primarily due to blocked water channels, resulting in water accumulation on the roadway. To address this, we are actively desilting existing lined drains and constructing additional ones to ensure proper drainage.”
Abdulrahim noted that the team had also moved to the Okada area, where a pond rendered a part of the road impassable for motorists.
